Plows/Ploughs - Key Farming Equipment
Plows used as farming machinery are mechanical today. Versus those pulled by animals in years past, ploughs are now pulled by tractors that can also be found here at TradeMachines in tractor auctions. Numerous manufacturers provide a range of plows as soil preparation equipment, cutting, fertilizers, and other farm work. JOHN DEERE is known for their range of models from three wheel tractors that pull equipment or those with the plough accessory on the front. KVERNELAND has the ES to LS models that work in various soil conditions at different horsepower including the ES at 150hp. OVERUM VARI FLEX CX is another plow for sale with a fully mounted reversible plough accessory.
The History of the Plough
The plough is thought to have been invented sometime around 6,000 BC in Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley, when man first began to harness the power of animals. The Egyptians and Romans made further modifications to the basic concept but it wasn't until the 17th century when major improvements were made. The last half century has seen some major leaps forward in plough technology, including hydraulic turnover systems, furrow width adjustment, technologically advanced frame designs, shear bolts and auto-reset systems; assets which need to be taken into consideration when looking for plows for sale and choosing the most suitable used plows for your requirements.
Types of Plough
The introduction of the mouldboard plow or frame plough was significant in that it cut down on the amount of time needed to prepare a field. The mouldboard section of the plough is instrumental in inverting the slice of topsoil cut by the ploughshare and laying it in the furrow at about a forty five degree angle. Reversible ploughs have two mouldboards mounted back to back, one right turning and the other left turning. While one is in use the other can be suspended, and the pair are turned over at the end of the row. 4 furrow ploughs are reversible ploughs capable of working a larger area of soil at one pass, thereby vastly increasing efficiency. It was the coming of mechanisation that made the use of multiple furrow ploughs such as the 4 furrow plough possible, as they require more power to drag through the soil. The chisel plow is used to attain deep tillage while causing relatively little soil disruption. This implement, unlike a moldboard plow, does not turn or invert the soil, thereby helping to prevent soil erosion and allowing a layer of organic matter and crop residue to remain on the surface. This has led to the chisel plow being regarded as a boon to sustainable agriculture practices. The disc plow has a number of individually mounted concave discs arranged into two or four sections. These are slightly offset to maximise their effectiveness, so that they loosen and pick up the soil that is cut. This implement is particularly useful in hard and dry soils or in scrubby or rocky land, and are sometimes known as harrow ploughs. If you are looking for a tractor plough the most crucial implement to consider is a disc plough, as initial cultivation can be extremely difficult without the proper equipment.
Used Plows For Sale
The major benefit of buying used plows is the greatly reduced cost. Farm equipment is designed to be reliable, durable and long lasting, so you know that the used tractor plough for sale that you have your eye on at a second hand agricultural equipment markt is likely to give you many years of useful service. A used plow may be just a few years old, as large farms regularly update their equipment, so you can end up with an item that is almost as good as new at a fraction of the cost of actually buying new.
Advantages of buying used plows on the second hand market include picking up farming equipment at below market value. You can find low cost plows for sale that are still usable and highly durable. Auction sites and other second hand sellers always check the ploughs for sale before they are sold to ensure all are in working order. With depreciation costs already out of the way, you may be able to upgrade the engine or plow parts for your plough while keeping within budget at auction locations.
Major Manufacturers of Plows
Buying plow trucks is possible from several major manufacturers since they build to last. These manufacturers include JOHN DEERE, OVERUM, KUHN, KVERNELAND, GEHL, INTERNATIONAL, KIRBY, OSWALT, BJM, JAYLOR, JIFFY, and APACHE.
